New Zealand is a country which for the most part is made up of hills and mountains area. These hilly and mountainous natures cover about 18 million hectares in land. This means that about 69% of the country land has slopes greater than 12 °, and got the country to be nicknamed the ‘hill country’. This 69% hilly land is further divided into two based on the sloppiness of the land. The land with slope between 12–28 ° is called ‘hill-land’; thus, the land whose slope exceeds 28 ° is themed ‘steepland’ (DSIR 1980).
